Swim Challenge

Whether you are dipping your toes in the water for the first time, or are an experienced swimmer, this challenge is suitable for everyone.

Sign up for our new swim challenge; choose your preferred distance, from 250m to 10k, pick your location and take part at a time to suit you, all to raise money for Birmingham Hospice.

Whether you brave an energising open water swim or opt for the lane of your local pool, swim your way and ensure local people living with a terminal diagnosis get the care and support they deserve. You’ll have four months to get your lengths in and complete the challenge.

How to get involved

3️⃣ Tell your friends and family and get fundraising

4️⃣ Take on a swim to provide care and compassion for local people living with a terminal diagnosis

How far can I swim?

Inspired by Birmingham’s waterways, you will be awarded with a digital badge celebrating a local reservoir for your chosen distance:

🎖️250m: 10 lengths of a 25m pool (Our junior challenge), equivalent to the distance of Edgbaston reservoir

🎖️1 mile: 64 lengths of a 25m pool, equivalent to the distance of Bartley Green reservoir

🎖️2 miles: 125 lengths of a 25m pool, equivalent to the distance of Aston reservoir

🎖️5k: 200 lengths of a 25m pool, equivalent to the distance of Frankley reservoir

🎖️10k: 400 lengths of a 25m pool, equivalent to the distance of Lifford reservoir

To help you with your challenge, you will get a handy swim tracker in your confirmation email when you sign up, that you can print and mark off each distance achieved.

Entry includes:

  • A digital certificate
  • A printable swim tracker to log each distance you achieve
  • A digital badge (for completing set lengths)*

*get in touch with details of how many lengths you achieved, once you’ve completed your challenge.  

Fundraise for us and you will also get:   

  • Dive in and raise £50 to receive a T-shirt. 
  • Make a splash and raise £150 to receive a T-shirt and a drawstring bag. 
  • Give ripples of hope and raise £200 to receive T-shirt, drawstring bag and hand towel.
  • Turn laps into love and raise above £200 and you’ll receive all of the above, plus a Birmingham Hospice medal!

We will get information about your final fundraising total from your Enthuse fundraising page, after the challenge finishes on 1 September. If you are not planning to fundraise via Enthuse please get in touch to let us know.

FAQs

Once you’ve signed up to Swim the Reservoir – Virtual Swim, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a link to download your swim tracker.

Our Swim Challenge is suitable for all ages and abilities, and our 250m ‘Edgbaston Reservoir’ swim is ideal for juniors or beginners.

You can choose when and where to complete your chosen distance, anytime between now and 1 September 2025.

This is your challenge and you can swim wherever you like – your local pool, your holiday hotel pool or your local lake or maybe even the Mediterranean Sea!

There’s no minimum sponsorship target to take part in this event, however we do ask for everyone to raise as much as they can. There’s no donation too big or small, and every penny makes a difference.  

We would love you to fundraise, and we have some great incentives on offer. 

All swimmers will receive:

  • A virtual certificate and virtual badge (for completing set lengths)  

Push yourself and raise the following:   

  • £50 to receive a T-shirt. 
  • £150 to receive a T-shirt and drawstring bag. 
  • £200 to receive T-shirt, drawstring bag and hand towel.

Raise above £200 and you’ll receive all of the above, plus a Birmingham Hospice medal!
