I was initially employed by the hospice on 1 January 2001 as a Palliative Care Social Worker. I had previously worked as a Senior Social Worker with Deaf People for many years.
In 2010 I agreed to ‘temporarily’ cover the role of Adult and Children Bereavement Lead, initially for a year. However, I continued in the role for nine years! I really enjoyed supervising and training Bereavement Volunteers as well as supporting pre- and post-bereaved children and adults. I ‘retired’ in March 2019 to take my own advice and give myself time to pursue some of my dreams. It also gave me some precious Grannie time with my three beautiful granddaughters.
It was a dream come true when I applied for and was accepted for a part-time post in the CHATS team in January 2022. I always had a particular passion for working with children who are grieving, so this chance to re-commence this work was an unbelievable opportunity for me. An added bonus was being able to work within a fantastic like-minded team to develop innovative and creative ways not only to support children and their parents, but to upskill other professionals. The last three year have definitely been some of the best in my career and I look forward to continuing to further develop the service.
